The Wladimiroff family originates from Latvia in the Russian Empire. The progenitor Aleksandr Vladimirov (1828–1901) was a citizen of Riga; his son Vladimir obtained hereditary Russian nobility in 1889. After the Russian Revolution, the family settled in the Dutch East Indies; Michail Wladimiroff was naturalized as a Dutch citizen in 1936.
