Baud is a family of Swiss origin, with one branch later included in the Netherlands Patriciaat and another in the Dutch nobility. Progenitor Humbert Baud dit Onton was recorded between 1409 and 1435 in Céligny near Geneva. Minister Jean Chrétien Baud (1789–1859) was elevated in 1858 with the title of baron by primogeniture.
